jobbishness
Remember a couple of weeks ago when I said I was going to be looking for a new job?

Just finished a phone interview that I think I very much aced. I'm on a short list which is quite short. And the work would be very much more interesting than what I'm doing now.

I'm trying, and failing, not to get my hopes up.

Also, I haven't quit a job* since 2001. How does one go about doing such things?

(* not counting the "I'm moving/graduating and thus no longer ~can~ work here" instances)

Thanks :)

The thing I'm sorta worried about is that my supervisor is a very hands-on, involved person, and I'm honestly worried about hurting her feelings with things. I think she'd take things better face to face, even though I'd be much better at expressing them through written text.

The "new opportunities" phrase is a good one. (And not just because it's entirely accurate.)

Well maybe it would help if you handed it to her face and tell her what it is and tell her that you've really enjoyed working with her or something it might help bridge the gap between what you're comfortable with and what you think she'd handle better?

True.
I also want to make sure I don't do it all with other people listening. Despite the fact that she keeps giving ~me~ important information in front of a bunch of other people ...
