About July 25th, 2006

Best spam ever? 09:08 am
Has anyone else gotten the "Scientific Journals International" email? It came through my .utoronto.ca address, which makes me think "spam" as I haven't used that address for anything in over a year.

I've looked at the website, and it seems to be "real," in that the group seems to do what it purports to do: viz, publish peer-reviewed articles quickly & efficiently. There is a $100 fee, but I've heard of fees like that being applied at established journals as well. The editorial board and advisory board have members from well-respected institutions. And that's about all the investigation I can do when I've got to leave for work in less than five minutes.

Still, it seems a little strange -- that I should get word of this not through one of my more relevant listservs, but through a traditional spam route.

Does anyone else use Library Thing?
I've signed up -- has been recommended to me a couple of times, and I've finally gotten around to it. Not gotten around to loading many books yet. (Once I get my full set of old history of science textbooks it should look pretty interesting...)

And I should mention that they've only just brought in a new "groups" feature.

...

I've also recently started using del.icio.us to bookmark things for further reference. I've liked it so far, though my "collection" is as yet rather random and incomplete. Here: http://del.icio.us/sjanes

& that's all for now, I think.

EDIT: Wednesday, 0:03, fixing link
